Nina Mae "Edwetta" Nelson, aged 83, of Louisville, Kentucky, peacefully passed away on February 8, 2026. She was a dedicated wife, mom, ma, sister, aunt, and friend, leaving behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. Nina had a passion for playing BINGO and enjoyed gambling. Her greatest joy stemmed from the love she felt for her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Nina delighted in watching her favorite game shows and horse racing, and she brought laughter to those around her, often playfully teasing her eldest son. Her vibrant spirit will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate to have known her.
Born on May 4, 1942, in Louisville, Kentucky, Nina was the daughter of Walter and Reba (Barnett) Felker. She is preceded in death by her father, Walter Felker; her mother, Reba Felker; her husband, Ronald Leroy Nelson, Sr.; her son-in-law, Billy "Sweet William" Cook; and her siblings, Dorothy Smith, Patsy Kendall, Brenda Jaggers, George Felker, and Harvey Felker.
Nina is survived by her loving family, which includes her children: Ronald Leroy Nelson, Jr., Debbie A. (Tommy) Aldridge, Richard (Candy) Nelson, Tammy (Donnie) Simpson, Brenda Jean (Billy) Cook, and Larry T. (Angela) Nelson. She is also survived by her brother, Billy Felker; her grandchildren, including Amy (Bojan) Cook, Sara Cook, Tyler Simpson, and many others; as well as her great-grandchildren, Layla Jade and Luka Stefanovic. She will be remembered fondly by her close friend Cheryl and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends who will cherish her memory.
Visitation will be held from 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Monday, February 16, 2026, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - Southwest Louisville Chapel, located at 10304 Dixie Hwy. A funeral service will take place at 10:30 AM on Tuesday at the same location, followed by burial at Louisville Memorial Gardens West in Louisville, Kentucky.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that contributions in Nina’s memory be made to the American Cancer Society.
