Nell Purkhiser

Nell Purkhiser, 90, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away on Thursday, March 19, 2026. Nell was a loving and devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt and Mamaw. She was a member of Kenwood Church of Christ and a devout Christian. Nell's faith was the cornerstone of her life. Next to God and her family, she enjoyed bluegrass music, fishing and growing tomatoes in her garden. Nell was very strong-willed and independent. She had a contagious sense of humor and was full of sass. Nell was very proud of being raised on a farm and raised her family by the same principles. She was passionate about cooking for her family and was known for her profound homemade biscuits. Nell will be deeply missed by all who had the honor of knowing her.

She was born on July 26, 1935 in White Mills, Kentucky to Everett and Lena (Miller) Cash. She is preceded in death by her father, Everett Cash; mother, Lena Cash; late husbands, Robert Meredith, Harold Purkhiser; and siblings, Paul, Bill, Agnes, Fran, Sydney, Yantz, Gene, and EB.

Nell is survived by her loving family, son, Robert Meredith; step-children, Jonathan (Jill) Purkhiser, Jennifer (Ken) Mason; granddaughter, Carrie Guzman (Casey); step-grandchildren, Drew (McKenzie), Cassie (John), Emily (Nick), Alex (Jessie); great-grandchildren, Cameron and Cayden; step great-grandchildren, Levi, Callie, Theo; siblings, Ernie Wayne, Judy, and Donnie; as well as a host of extended family and friends to cherish her loving memory forever.

Visitation will be on Tuesday, March 24, 2026 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, Southwest Louisville Chapel, 10304 Dixie Highway. Visitation will resume on Wednesday at 9:00 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. Her Funeral Service will be at 10:30 am on Wednesday, at the funeral home with burial to follow at Bethany Memorial Cemetery in Louisville, Kentucky.
