Narae Tsimekles, 84, of Louisville, Kentucky, passed away surrounded by her family on Saturday, October 27, 2018.
She was born on May 25, 1934, in Nara, Japan, to the late Otojiro and Shigeno Tozawa. She is preceded in death by her husband, James N. Tsimekles, and son, Nick Tsimekles.
Narae moved to the United States with her husband and children in 1959 and lived in Dover, New Hampshire, Newburgh, New York, and Dayton, Ohio, before settling in Louisville, Kentucky, in 1974.
She was a talented seamstress and worked at several department stores. Her other interests included gardening, knitting, crocheting and cooking. She enjoyed spending time with her family and watching sports, including attending University of Louisville football games. She was a Girl Scout leader, and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, the Daughters of Penelope and the Greek Orthodox Ladies Philoptochos Society.
Narae is survived by her daughters, Carolyn Barnett (Michael) and Diane Tsimekles (Owen Hammett); four grandchildren, James H. Tsimekles (Jennesy), Nichole Tsimekles, Allison Tsimekles and Emily Barnett; daughter-in-law, Pamela Compton Tsimekles Harpenau; and several nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Visitation will be from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Wednesday, October 31, 2018 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, (235 Juneau Drive Louisville, KY 40243).
Her funeral service will be private and held at a later date with burial to follow at Cave Hill Cemetery.
The family requests that contributions in Narae's memory be made to St. Michael Antiochian Orthodox Church (3701 St. Michael Church Drive Louisville, KY 40220).
