Nancy Grammer Calvert

Nancy Grammer Calvert, born on November 29, 1942, in Louisville, Kentucky, passed away peacefully on August 14, 2026, in her hometown of Louisville. Her life was a tapestry woven with dedication to family, quiet joys, and the enduring warmth she brought to those around her.

Nancy was the beloved daughter of Paul Thomas Grammer Sr. and Lillian Marguerite Edwards Grammer. She grew up in Evansville, Indiana, and these formative years instilled in her a deep appreciation for family values and lifelong friendships. Later, Nancy made a home in Madisonville, where she lived for 27 years, impacting her community and creating lasting memories before returning to Louisville.

Family was at the heart of Nancy's world. She is survived by her dear brother, Frank Edward Grammer, and her cherished children, Karen Calvert Ellis (Dennis) and Eric Calvert (Lynn). Nancy’s love extended deeply to her grandchildren—James Ellis (Sheridan) and Rebecca Zadorozhnyy (Vasily)—whose lives she touched with wisdom, encouragement, and gentle humor. Also faithfully by her side was her beloved cat, Luna, a constant and comforting companion.

Nancy’s journey was also marked by loss, having been preceded in death by her husband, James Leslie Calvert, her brother, Paul Thomas Grammer Jr., and her parents. Though they are no longer present, their influence and memories were always held close in Nancy’s heart.

She embraced the simple and profound pleasures of life. Nancy enjoyed spending winters in Florida, reveling in the gentle warmth and the beauty of the season. She was an avid reader, finding solace and adventure within the pages of her books. Afternoons often found her savoring a gin and tonic, reflecting on days filled with meaning and connection.

Throughout her life’s chapters, Nancy was guided by kindness, steady strength, and a quiet but spirited outlook. She leaves behind a legacy of devotion to her loved ones and an example of grace and dignity that will remain in the hearts of those she touched.

Nancy Grammer Calvert will be dearly missed by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. May her memory be a source of comfort and inspiration as her story lives on.
