Nancy Grammer Calvert

Nancy Grammer Calvert, born on November 29, 1942, in Louisville, Kentucky, passed away peacefully in her home on August 14, 2026. She was often the first to laugh and the last to stop. Her spirit will be remembered fondly and with reverence.

Nancy was the beloved daughter of Paul Thomas Grammer Sr. and Lillian Marguerite Edwards Grammer. She grew up in Evansville, Indiana and later made a home in Madisonville for 30+ years. She was an active member at the Lakeshore Country Club, with weekends spent golfing with her loved ones and many late nights with friends. She was dedicated to those she held dear, and nothing was more important than time with her family.

She is survived by her dear brother Frank Edward Grammer, her children Karen Calvert Ellis (Dennis) and Eric Calvert (Lynn); her grandchildren James Ellis (Sheridan), Rebecca Zadorozhnyy (Vasily), Emily Lawson (Stephen), and Aaron Terry (Michaela). Nancy’s love extended to her great-grandchildren Max Lawson, Eli Lawson, Auggie Lawson, Benny Terry, and Audrey Terry. Also by her side was her sweet and gentle cat, Luna.

Nancy’s journey was also marked by loss, having been preceded in death by her husband, James Leslie Calvert, her brother, Paul Thomas Grammer Jr., and her parents. Though they are no longer present, their influence and memories were always held close in her heart.

Nancy embraced the simple and profound pleasures of life. She enjoyed spending winters in Florida, reveling in the warmth of living on the Gulf Coast. She was an avid reader, finding herself lost in the pages of her books, while concluding her day savoring a gin and tonic.

Though small in stature, her steady strength and spirited kindness leave an ever-lasting impact on those she held dear. She built a legacy of devotion to the ones she loved, and was an example of elegant grace, beauty, and dignity.

Nancy Grammer Calvert will be dearly missed by her family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing her. May her memory be a source of comfort and inspiration as her story lives on.
