Myrtle Ann (Kearns) "Mawmaw" Vaughn, aged 86, of Jeffersonville, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 27, 2024 surrounded by her family. Myrtle was a dedicated member of Gospel Tabernacle, where her faith was a guiding light in her life. Mawmaw's life revolved around her family and her close friends who became family.
Myrtle was born on August 12, 1938, in Louisville, Kentucky, to James Kearns and Nettie (Myers) Johnson. She nurtured a rich family legacy and was known for her warm spirit, unwavering kindness, and the joy she brought to those around her. Along with her parents, Myrtle was predeceased by her beloved husband, James B. Vaughn, son, Timothy Vaughn, step-father, Earl Johnson, granddaughter, Tonya Vaughn, brother, Herbert Kearns and sister, Phyllis Dunn.
She leaves behind a large and loving family that includes her children, James O. Vaughn, Sr. (Paula), Michael Vaughn, Sr. (Kay) and Cheryl DeWees (Doug). Myrtle was affectionately known as Mawmaw, and cherished her role as a grandmother and great-grandmother, having 15 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren who will forever hold her memory in their hearts.
Visitation for Myrtle will be from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 5, 2024 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). Her funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday at Gospel Tabernacle (2000 E. Tenth Street, Jeffersonville) with her grandson, Chad Vaughn, officiating. Burial will follow at Walnut Ridge Cemetery.
