Minnie L. Clay

Minnie L. Clay, born on January 15, 1958, passed away peacefully on August 4, 2026, leaving behind an indelible mark on the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to love her. The daughter of the late Ruthie Clay, Minnie grew up surrounded by a tight-knit family from which she drew great strength. She was the beloved sister of Henry Clay, Alice Smith, and Shirley Clay, all of whom survive her, as well as the late Jimmy Clay, her brother whose memory she always cherished.

Minnie’s unwavering devotion to her family was perhaps most evident in her role as mother to her one and only son, Shondell Clay. She was his fiercest protector, his biggest supporter, and his steadfast confidante. The bond they shared was remarkable, offering a shining example of unconditional love.

Minnie’s warmth and wit were matched by her openness and her fearless independence. Whether gathering her family close or standing up for what she believed in, Minnie brought her unique perspective to every conversation. Her love extended to her grandchildren—Javentavia Fitzgerald, Myshawna Clay, and Aliyahh Cunningham—and to her great-grandchildren, Andre Clay and J. B. Fitzgerald. Each of them carries a piece of her influence, a testament to her nurturing and ever-present care. Her circle of love expanded further to her nieces and nephews: Johnathon Smith, Clay Carter, Heather Carter, Jasmine Clay, and LaTonya Mitchell, all of whom will remember her fondly and continue to benefit from the lessons she quietly taught.

Minnie’s professional life was marked by dedication and loyalty. She retired from ComCast after 35 years where she served as a receptionist, greeting colleagues and visitors with the same grace and geniality that she offered to friends and family.

Outside of work and family, Minnie found joy in expressing her creativity. She had a keen interest in painting and do-it-yourself crafts and activities, often filling her home and the homes of loved ones with hand-made treasures—a reflection of her resourceful and inventive spirit.
