Miller John "Sonny" Johnson, Jr.

Miller John "Sonny" Johnson, Jr., 89, of New Albany, Indiana, passed away on Saturday, September 15, 2018. He was a United States Army veteran. Sonny worked as a chef at various local restaurants and was a member of the American Legion. He was a talented organist and served as choir director at many churches in both the Cincinnati and Atlanta areas.

He was born on May 2, 1929 in Jeffersonville, Indiana. Miller was preceded in death by his parents, Miller, Sr. and Augusta Johnson; son-in-law, Clyde Bishop, Sr.; sister, Mattie Martin; and brother-in-law, Floyd Mickens.

Miller is survived by his daughter, Toni Johnson-Bishop; sister, Winnie Mickens; grandchildren, Ronnell Bishop, Clyde Bishop, Jr. (C.L.), April Bishop-Parrson; great-grandchildren, Jalaya Parrson, Janaya Parrson, Dezire Bishop, Daija Bishop; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 19, 2018, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany) with his Funeral Service taking place at 1:00 p.m. Private burial with military honors will take place at a later date at New Albany National Cemetery.
