Mildred Wheeler Mauney, 87, of Jellico, Tennessee passed away peacefully on August 13th, 2025, in Louisville, Kentucky.
She was proceeded in death by her parents Nell Wheeler and LeRoy Wheeler and brother Martin Wheeler (Patsy Chinn).
Mildred is survived by daughter, Jamie Gribbins (Mike) of Louisville, KY, grandson, Jared Bryant, also of Louisville, KY, a granddaughter, Alyssa Gribbins of Santa Rosa, CA, and great grandson, Jace Bryant. She will be dearly missed by her nieces, Pam Creekmore (Larry) and Linda Hunter (Darrell Monhollen), and nephew Marty Wheeler. Mildred's great-niece Amy Stephens (Walt) and great-nephews Eric Harris and Trevor Hunter (Becka) will remember her fondly, along with her great-great-nieces, Harley and Dylan Stephens, Avalee Hunter, and great-great-nephew Abel Hunter. She also leaves behind a host of family and friends who will miss her warmth and generous nature.
Mildred was a kind and patient public educator for 43 years and inspired countless students in the Lake City, Tennessee area. She was especially known for funding field trips, purchasing school supplies and clothing for underprivileged students out of her own pocket.
Mildred had a lifelong passion for horses and frequently took in neglected or homeless animals. She loved cars and could rarely pass up a good trade. Mildred is also known for her delicious homemade apple butter lovingly made with apples from her very own apple orchard.
Visitation will be held on August 24th, 2025, from 2-4 with service beginning at 4 at Llewellyn Funeral Home, 750 S. Main Street, Jellico, Tennessee.
