Mildred Catherine(James) Sands

Mildred Catherine (James) Sands, 93, of New Albany, Indiana passed away on Friday, April 24, 2015. She was a member of Graceland Baptist Church and the Ohio Valley Blind Association. Catherine was also a life-time member of VFW Post 1693 Ladies Auxiliary and a member of American Legion Post 28 Ladies Auxiliary. She loved to garden and spend time out in the yard.

She was born on January 21, 1922 in Crab Orchard, Kentucky. Catherine was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Sands; children, Beverly Haney, Jerry Sands; brother, Alfred James; and grandson, Ricky Younger.

She is survived by her children, Rebecca Osborne, Harold Sands (Chelle), Catherine Sands, James Sands (Sharon), Tony Sands (Carolyn); brother, John Brown; 14 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 2 PM to 8 PM Monday, April 27, 2015 at Newcomer Funeral Home (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany) and on Tuesday after 11 AM. Her Funeral Service will be held at 1 PM Tuesday at the funeral home with burial to follow at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park in New Albany.
