Listen to Obituary

The sun set far too soon on the beautiful life of Michelle “Chelley” Virginia Menslage (née Sanders), who went home to her Heavenly Father on June 24, 2026, following a courageous battle against cancer. Born on July 20, 1985, in Louisville, Kentucky, Chelley lived a life radiating warmth, kindness, and an unwavering spirit that touched all who knew her.

Chelley’s roots in Louisville were steadfast; it was here she grew up, forged lifelong bonds, and eventually built a loving home with her husband, Michael Menslage. Together, their lives were enriched with two beloved daughters, Mary Jane and Adalyn, who carry forward their mother’s legacy of compassion and joyful resilience.

To her family, Chelley was both a source of strength and a gentle harbor in times of need. She was the cherished daughter of Sue Casper and step-father Larry Casper and the devoted sister to Sam (Lacie) Sanders. She deeply treasured her nephews—Skip, Connor, and Jacob- her step-sister Angela, and all her beloved extended family.

The echoes of loved ones who preceded Chelley in death are felt in the enduring stories she so lovingly preserved: her father, Buz Sanders; her grandparents, Col. B. R. Sanders II and Emily Sanders; and Dr. Jack Hellmann and Mary Jane Hellmann. Their memories, lovingly upheld by Chelley, remain woven into the fabric of her family.

Chelley brought so much joy into every room. She was funny in this effortless way that made people feel lighter just being around her. She had this strong‑willed streak that somehow made her even more lovable. She was warm, stubborn in the sweetest way, and full of a spirit that made life better for the people lucky enough to be near her. Chelley loved music, singing, dancing, traveling to events especially concerts. However, her greatest joy was being a loving devoted mother to Mary Jane.

As the family gathers to remember and honor Chelley’s remarkable life, they invite those whose lives she brightened to join them in celebration. Visitation will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home, East Louisville, located at 235 Juneau Drive, Louisville, KY 40243, on July 3, 2026, from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM. The funeral service will follow at the same location from 5:00 PM to 6:00 PM.

Though Chelley’s departure leaves an immense absence, her legacy endures in the love and light she brought into the world. As her family, friends, and all who knew her gather to bid farewell, they do so with gratitude for the years shared and hearts full of treasured memories. In every gentle breeze and cherished recollection, the spirit of Chelley remains—ever cherished, ever lasting.
