Michel "Mike" D. McCarty, born on October 19, 1952, in Seymour, Indiana, passed away on January 8, 2026, in New Albany, Indiana. He lived a life filled with warmth, generosity, and an unparalleled zest for storytelling, leaving behind a cherished legacy that will linger in the hearts of his loved ones.
Mike dedicated a significant part of his career as the Vice President and sales manager of Indiana Bottle Company, gracefully guiding the company until his retirement. His commitment to his work was evident, but it was his deep-rooted love for family that defined him. Mike was a proud 1970 graduate of Jennings County High School. He furthered his education at Vincennes University, where he earned his associate degree in business.
Mike was known for never meeting a stranger. He possessed an innate ability to strike up conversations with anyone, often bringing laughter and joy to those around him, particularly during unexpected encounters in elevators. His storytelling prowess, whether sharing tales rooted in reality or weaving whimsical fabrications, endeared him to many and made him a beloved figure in his family and community. He was a proud member of Southeast Christian Church in Jeffersonville, Indiana, where he continued to serve the Lord.
He actively enjoyed spending time outdoors, especially sitting on the deck in the sun and had a passion for playing card games. Mike relished going on cruises and traveling with his loving wife, Becky, and together, they created countless lasting memories and following University of Louisville sports. His family was his pride and joy, with Sunday afternoons spent with his grandson, Kyle. He also enjoyed piddling in the yard when Kyle was younger, then playing games as Kyle got older, these were the highlights of his week.
Mike is survived by his devoted wife, Becky McCarty; his son, Keith (Kelly) McCarty; his grandson, Kyle McCarty; and his brothers, Kent McCarty (Sandy Girvin), Chris (Charlotte) McCarty, and Mark (Debbie) McCarty. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends who will miss his laughter and warmth.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Don and Wilma (Stoops) McCarty; his sister, Jan (Kenny) King; and sister, Kay McCarty.
Visitation services in honor of Mike will be held at the Newcomer Funeral Home, Southern Indiana, located at 3309 Ballard Ln, New Albany, IN 47150. The first visitation will take place on Tuesday, January 13, 2026, from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM, followed by a second visitation on Wednesday, January 14, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM. A funeral service will follow the second visitation, beginning at 11:00 AM with burial to follow at Abundant Life Memorial Gardens in New Albany, Indiana.
