Michael Lee "Mike" Rainbolt, of the Clarksville community, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 9, 2026, at the age of 74. He was born on February 26, 1951. Mike graduated from Jeffersonville High School and honorably served in the United States Army, demonstrating his commitment to his country.
A dedicated public servant, Mike’s career included a tenure as a police officer for the Town of Clarksville, where he was known for his integrity and dedication to the community. Later, he transitioned to General Electric in Louisville, where he would eventually retire.
On November 22, 2017, Mike married Samantha Buchanan, who was the love of his life. Together, they built a family that was a source of immense joy for Mike. He was known for his boundless love and kindness, which he shared generously with not only his wife, but also his step-children, grandchildren, and extended family and friends. Many lovingly referred to him as “Rainbolt,” a nickname that he carried for most of his life.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Samantha, and his step-children, Elizabeth Gray (Paul Jr.), Maurice Rhodes Jr., Jessica Rhodes, Amanda Rhodes, and Tyler Buchanan. He is also survived by his twelve grandchildren, who brought him great happiness. His sister, Lisa Rainbolt, sister-in-law, Lori Rainbolt, along with his nephew, Aaron (Heather), and niece, Amy (TJ), carry forward his memory, alongside countless other family members and friends who felt the impact of his compassionate spirit.
Mike is preceded in death by his parents, Orman "Liz" and Vivian (Prince) Rainbolt, and his brother, Jimmy Rainbolt. He would wish for those he left behind to find peace, as he has now found solace with his Father in Heaven. Thank you all for honoring his memory.
Mike's wish was to be cremated. A gathering of family and friends will take place from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 15, 2026 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). A celebration of Mike's life will commence at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
