Listen to Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Michael "Meatball" Potter, a beloved son, brother, husband, uncle and friend. He left us on March 1, 2026, at the age of 61, in his hometown of Louisville, Kentucky. Born on October 2, 1964, Michael was a bright light for all who knew him. His larger-than-life personality and infectious laughter will be profoundly missed.

Michael was a skilled mechanic by trade, possessing a remarkable talent for working on cars and focusing on small engine repair. His passion for fixing things extended beyond the garage; it was an expression of his nature, reflecting his desire to lend a helping hand to those around him. Those who had the pleasure of witnessing his work knew he approached every project with dedication and care.

Music was another significant part of his life, and he found joy in performing as the drummer for his band, the "Flaming Hoosiers." The rhythm of the drums was a reflection of his spirit—dynamic, engaging, and full of life. Michael's love for music brought friends and family closer, creating memories that will be cherished forever.

Michael was not just known for his skills; he was a fun-loving individual with a heart of gold. He possessed a unique ability to weave humor into any occasion. He might have appeared stern at times, but beneath that tough exterior lay a soft heart dedicated to those he loved. A devout yet silent believer in Christ, Michael's faith guided him in his relationships and interactions with others.

He leaves behind a loving family who will carry his memory with them always. Michael is survived by his cherished mother, Janice Daunhauer, his wife, LaKeta Potter, and his sister, Krista Haney. His legacy continues through his nephews, William Haney, Kyle (Abby) Haney, and Zachary Haney, sister in-law, Edna Potter Coslow and his niece, Sarah Potter. He also leaves behind a host of great nieces and great nephews, and the dear companionship of his cousin and best friend, Kevin O'Reilly. He is now reunited in eternal life with his father, Michael C. Potter Sr., step father, John Daunhauer, brother, Brent Potter and nephew, Kerry Potter.

Michael's life will be celebrated at Newcomer Funeral Home in Southwest Louisville, located at 10304 Dixie Hwy, on Sunday, March 8th. There will be a visitation from 1:00 PM to 8:00 PM, followed by a Celebration of Life at 6:00 PM. He will be laid to rest privately at Louisville Memorial Gardens West. As we remember and honor Michael, let us find solace in the joy he brought into our lives and the love he so generously shared.

Michael "Meatball" Potter's vibrant spirit will forever resonate in our hearts, ensuring that while he may be gone from this earth, he continues to live on through the countless lives he touched.
