Michael R. "Mike" McMahon, 85, passed away on July 28, 2026, in Louisville, Ky.
Born on February 13, 1941, in Southern Illinois, Mike graduated from Eldorado High School before earning a football scholarship to the University of Louisville. He made Kentucky his home, receiving his bachelor's degree in business from the University of Louisville before going on to earn his law degree from the University of Louisville School of Law. He enjoyed a long and respected legal career, practicing law until his retirement.
Mike was preceded in death by the mother of his children, Frances. Mike and Frances had four children, who survive him: John McMahon (Kim), Joe McMahon (Beth), Bart McMahon (Beth), and Jenn McMahon Eberle. He also leaves behind cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who will carry forward his memory as Papaw Mac.
Outside of his legal career and family, Mike found joy on the golf course, on his motorcycle, at the blackjack table, and around a card table.
Perhaps Mike's greatest legacy was his commitment to helping others. In addition to service to his legal clients, for more than 40 years, he was a dedicated member of the local Alcoholics Anonymous community, generously giving his time, guidance, and encouragement to countless individuals seeking sobriety. His quiet compassion and willingness to help others changed many lives and will be remembered by all who knew him.
Mike will be remembered for his sharp mind, adventurous spirit, and sense of humor.
The family will announce information about services for a future date and time. Expressions of sympathy may be sent to Catholic Charities of Louisville.
