Michael Joseph "Mike" McDaniel, 72, of Lanesville, Indiana passed away on Monday, January 4, 2016.
Mike was born on May 22, 1943 in New Albany, Indiana. He was a criminal defense lawyer who was admitted to the Bar in 1968. Mike was a member of the Board of Directors of the Indiana Public Defender Council, the Indiana State Bar, The American Bar Association, The National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and The American Trial Lawyer Association. He had a firm belief that every man deserved a second chance and that no life should go wasted. Mike tried over 450 jury trials and 7 capital cases in his career.
He is survived by his wife, Debby (Banet) McDaniel; children, Kelly Hayes (Patrick), Thomas McDaniel, Joseph McDaniel (Wakako), Shannon McDaniel, & Erin Casey McDaniel; mother, Mary Edelen (Robert); grandchildren, Robyn Lambright, Shannon Hayes, Andy Hayes, & Maggie Hayes. He is preceded in death by his father, Joseph M. McDaniel.
A Memorial Gathering will be held from 12 PM to 6 PM Friday, January 8, 2016 at Newcomer Funeral Home (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). His Memorial Service will take place at 6 PM on Friday in the chapel at the funeral home. Cremation was chosen following Mike's wishes.
