He married Martha Lou Anderson and their first two children, Jacob and Joy Beth, were born in Vestavia Hills in Birmingham, Alabama. This young family decided to move back to Kent's Kentucky roots in Louisville where their "Kentucky Babe", Hannah Grace, was born.

Kent was very active at St. Matthews Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School to preschoolers, coached and refereed Upward Basketball, and played on the church basketball and softball teams. He always used his gift of music to praise the Lord. He sang in the choir, a bluegrass gospel band, and sang and played guitar in the praise band. His brother, sister, children and nephew enjoyed singing and playing with him for many years. He was cast in dramas and musical productions where he played Jesus in "Baggage Claim" and Joseph in "Two from Galilee". His church family at St. Matthews Baptist Church was an integral part of his life.
Kent was a dedicated father. He loved his children so very much. He encouraged them and participated in their activities.
Kent began a fight with pancreatic cancer about eighteen months ago, but he did not lose his battle because Christ has already championed death. He will be deeply missed but we will one day be with him again in eternal Glory.
