Michael R. Collard, age 65, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 18,
2020 at Jewish Hospital in Louisville, KY. He was born on September 17,
1954 in Fort Leonard Wood, MO to Arthur and Irene (Ziebarth) Collard . He
was a 1972 graduate of Valley High School in Louisville, KY, where he was
in the Navy JROTC program. Following graduation, Michael enlisted in the
United States Army Military Police Corps, achieving the rank of Corporal
prior to his honorable separation from the service. He then attended the
University of Louisville where he graduated with a bachelor's degree in
Police Administration. Upon graduating, Michael joined the Jefferson County
Police Department (later re-designated as the Louisville Metro Police
Department) where he served 26 years and was among the first Police Officer
Paramedics. He later served as a supervisor of the LMPD Evidence Technician
Unit. From 1999-2003 he utilized his knowledge of evidence collection while
serving as an Law Enforcement Professional Advisor to the Iraqi Police.
He is survived by his loving wife of 26 years, Sandra Collard; his three
Sons, James, Cameron, and Matthew; his daughter Drew (Chad McGarvie);
his sister, Elaine (Bernd Herrmann); and brother, Butch Collard. He is
preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Irene (Ziebarth) Collard. Michael is also survived by his little companion Luke ( Who he liked to refer as the "worlds oldest" puppy).
Visitation will be from 4pm-7pm on Wednesday, June 24, 2020 at Newcomer
Funeral Home. The address is 10304 Dixie Hwy, Louisville, KY 40272. Funeral
service will begin at 10am on Thursday, June 25, 2020 at the same location.
