Melvyn "Mel" Alexander Beard

Melvyn Alexander Beard, affectionately known to many as "Big Mel," passed away on April 5, 2026. He was born on June 12, 1958, in Louisville, Kentucky.

Known for his generous spirit and remarkable ability to fix nearly anything, Mel was often the go-to person for those needing help with their vehicles. Many fondly recall him in his garage, where he would be found listening to oldies on 107.7, ever ready to lend his expertise and a helpful hand. His hands-on approach, paired with a warm heart, made him a steadfast friend and neighbor, respected not only for his mechanical talents but also for his kindness.

Mel’s passions extended beyond his handiwork. He deeply enjoyed spending time on the lake and boating, finding joy and peace from the company of loved ones. Above all, he treasured the moments spent with his family, delighting in taking family trips and creating memories that would endure through generations.

He is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Melanie Beard, who stood faithfully by his side through all of life’s seasons. Mel was a dedicated father to his daughters, Desiree (Brandon) Montgomery and Emily (Jordan) Beard-Lynem, whose lives he enriched with his steady presence and guidance. His legacy continues to flourish in the lives of his grandchildren, Jade, Owen, and Mellie, who brought him immense pride and joy. He is also survived by his sisters, Brenda Garber, Betty Beard, Alice Phipps, and Lynn Khayyata; and his sister-in-law, Sandy Beard.

Mel was preceded in death by his parents, George Beard and Laverne Porter Beard; and his brother, Philip Beard.

Cremation was chosen following Mel's wishes and a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
