Melvin R. Pamplin, a beloved figure in his community and a devoted family man, passed away peacefully on March 8, 2026, in Corydon, Indiana, surrounded by his loving partner Betty Kopp and family. Born on November 16, 1938, in Georgetown, Indiana, Melvin was a proud graduate of Georgetown High School, a milestone that laid the foundation for a life characterized by hard work, dedication, and love for those around him.
For numerous years, Melvin channeled his skill and passion into a satisfying career as a mechanic with International Harvester, where he earned the respect of his colleagues and customers alike. His commitment to his craft reflected his overall personality—hardworking, dedicated, and always ensuring that his family was well taken care of.
In addition to his professional achievements, Melvin's greatest joy came from his family. He was a loving father to his daughter, Melanie (Louis) Chouinard, stepdaughter Darla McWilliams, stepson Thomas Goodman, stepdaughter Kathy Taylor, and a devoted partner to Betty. Melvin cherished every moment spent with his granddaughter, Hilary Ruggles, step-grandsons Jaemes and Jakeb Chouinard, and great-granddaughter, Lillian Herron. One of his proudest accomplishments was watching Hilary grow and witnessing the successes of his family, which filled his heart with immense pride and happiness.
Melvin was also known for his vibrant spirit outside of work. He had an infectious love for life that was expressed through his various hobbies and interests. His passion for fishing, going on picnics, and bowling brought joy not only to himself but also to those who joined him on these delightful adventures. An avid thrifter, he enjoyed exploring unique finds that often came with stories of their own. Music held a special place in Melvin's heart; he found great pleasure and comfort in playing guitar, sharing melodies that echoed the love he had for life.
The family would like to express gratitude for his compassionate caregivers, Bonny Carter and Rhiannon Harpring.
He is preceded in death by his wife Darlene Pamplin; parents, Sylvia and Oscar Pamplin; son, Mark Pamplin; daughter, Holly Pamplin; and Stepson, Lamonie Goodman. Their memories lived on within him, and they remain a cherished part of his legacy.
The visitation for Melvin R. Pamplin will take place on March 12, 2026, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 pm at Newcomer Funeral Home, Southern Indiana, located at 3309 Ballard Ln, New Albany, IN.
