Melvin Charles Gettelfinger, 78, passed away on Friday, March 4, 2016 at Jewish Hospital Cardiovascular ICU. Melvin went into business in his twenties with his three brothers and later became the sole owner of Mister Hardware in Edwardsville. After his years in the hardware business, Melvin retired back to his first love of farming.
Melvin was born in 1938 in Bradford to the late Felix George and Viola Elizabeth (Bir) Gettelfinger.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Kaye Marie (Longest) Gettelfinger; children, Deanna, Tony (Janita), and Phil (Melissa) Gettelfinger, and Debra Belviy (Tom); siblings, Bob (Joann), Ernie (Diane), and Glenn (Jane) Gettelfinger, and Shirley Jones (widow of Donnie Jones); sister-in-law, Ann McAllister (widow of Larry McAllister); grandchildren, Amy, Ryan, Jill, Ashton, Camryn, and Brayton Gettelfinger, and Amber and Brooklyn Belviy; step-granddaughter, Karissa Roadhouse.
Visitation will be from 12 Noon to 8 PM Wednesday, March 9, 2016 at Newcomer Funeral Home (3309 Ballard Ln., New Albany). His Funeral Mass will be celebrated Thursday at 10 AM at St. Mary's Catholic Church in New Albany with burial to follow at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery of New Albany (2210 Charlestown Rd. New Albany, IN 47150).
