Melodye Joyce (Schanie) Root

Melodye Joyce (Schanie) Root, 74, of New Albany, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday, January 19, 2021. She was a retired teacher from Fairmont Elementary School and a member of Northside Christian Church. Melodye was also an avid fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes.

She was born on December 10, 1946, in Louisville, Kentucky, to the late Irven and Joyce (Woosley) Schanie. Melodye is survived by her husband of 51 years, Clayton Root; sons, Josh, Kevin (Megan), and Ryan Root; siblings, Alan Schanie (Cheri) and JoNell Nichter (Dan); and grandchildren, Wyatt, Roxie, Brock, Leighla, and Eavie.

Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, January 25, 2021, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). Her funeral service will be held privately with cremation to follow according to Melodye's wishes.
