Melinda Gail (Briles) Portman, 50, loving wife, mother, and friend, of Clarksville, Indiana, passed away on Tuesday, November 3, 2020. Family always came first, and Melinda's love for them ran deep in her soul. She enjoyed traveling with family and friends, especially to the beach for some relaxation in the sun, surrounded by those she loved.
Melinda worked as a monitor tech at UofL Hospital and often spoke about how much she loved her job, coworkers, and being a part of the UofL family. She will be loved and missed by so many. Melinda inspired kindness in everyone with whom she came in contact by her contagious smile, laugh, positive energy, selfless love, and always being able to see the best in others.
She was born on April 19, 1970, in New Albany, Indiana, to Jack, Jr., and Alma (Cotner) Briles. Along with her parents, Melinda is survived by her husband, Robert Portman; daughter, Adrian Cooper; sons, Kaleb, BJ, and Michael Portman; sisters, Donna Richey (Jason) and Pamela Briles; brother, Jack Briles III (Lynn); and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 8, 2020, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany) and on Monday after 10:00 a.m. Her funeral service will take place at 12:00 p.m. on Monday in the chapel at the funeral home with cremation to follow according to Melinda's wishes. Private burial will take place at a later date at Walnut Ridge Cemetery in Jeffersonville.
