Maurice J. Grantz, Jr.

Maurice Joseph Grantz, Jr. (Sonny), 86, of Starlight, Indiana, passed away on September 4, 2016. A lifelong member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Starlight, Indiana, Sonny was a graduate of St. Xavier High School and a proud member of the K of C Councils #1221 and #8586. He retired from Southern Bell after more than 30 years of service and was also proud to have worked for the Franciscan Shelter House for more than 30 years as well.

Sonny was born on April 26, 1930, in New Albany, Indiana, to the late Agnes Pauline (Koetter) and Maurice Joseph Grantz, Sr. Along with his parents, Sonny was preceded in death by his first wife, Edith C. (Missi) Grantz; brother, Robert L. Grantz; brother-in-law, Tom McCartin; and sisters-in-law, Marcy and Roberta Grantz. He is survived by his wife, Sharon Niehoff; daughters, Debbie Young (Les), Patricia Davis (James), Tuddy Lee (Thomas), Barbie Andres (Mark), and Theresa Edwards (Ray); step-children, Ronald Niehoff, Bradley Niehoff (Cindy), Jerry Niehoff, Cindy Curry (Brad), Suzie Luckett (Matt), and Kelly Niehoff; siblings, Ronald Grantz (Janet) and Rosie McCartin;16 grandchildren, and 24 great-grandchildren; 15 step-grandchildren; and 14 step-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 2:30 PM to 9:00 PM on Wednesday, September 7, 2016, at Newcomer Funeral Home (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany, Indiana). Visitation will continue Thursday morning at the church from 9-11 AM. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11AM on Thursday, September 08, 2016 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church with cremation to follow.
