Maurice Charles Geswein, 95, passed peacefully on February 1, 2026, at his home in Lanesville, Indiana with family by his side, the same home where he entered this world on July 30, 1930. He was the youngest of six children born to Louis and Clara (Hublar) Geswein. Maurice spent his entire life on the family farm, a place where he learned the values of hard work, faith, and dedication that guided him throughout his life.
Maurice and Anna (Schmelz) Geswein were married at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in 1958. They were married for nearly 64 years before her death in March 2022. Maurice was a proud father to three daughters: Kathleen, Jane and Diane. He was also a devoted grandfather to five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
A devout Catholic, Maurice was a lifelong parishioner of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lanesville, where his faith was a central part of his daily life. He dedicated many years to the oversight and care of the parish cemetery. Maurice was a farmer by profession and was deeply committed to serving his community. Maurice was an active volunteer at Lanesville Heritage Weekend and served as a bank director at Farmers State Bank for more than 50 years. He was passionate about ensuring that Lanesville continued to have a strong, local bank to support its residents and businesses. He was also a United States Army veteran, having served honorably during the Korean War.
He will be remembered for his unwavering faith, dedication to family, quiet strength, love of sharing stories, and lifelong commitment to his farm and community. His legacy lives on through the many lives he touched.
Maurice is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Anna Geswein; brothers, Clem and Elmer, sisters, Marina Schellenberger, Anna Mae Geswein, Hilda Voelker; daughter, Kathleen Dye, and son-in-law, James Dye, Jr. He is survived by his daughters: Jane (Scott) Berkley of Lanesville, Indiana; Diane (Chuck) Kost of Georgetown, Indiana; grandchildren, Adam (Tara), Alex (Keziah), Abigail (Patrick), Nolan (Olivia), and Lydia (Harrison), and cherished great-grandchildren, Avery, Triston, Raegan, Ava, and Rowyn, each of whom brought him great joy.
