Matthew Michael Weixler- “Matt”- was born in Audubon Hospital in Louisville on August 22, 1982, and left this earth May 31, 2026. He collapsed on Bardstown Road, near Douglass Loop, which is where he always spent time and hung out as a kid and an adult. A good Samaritan called EMS and when they arrived, Matt was in cardiac arrest. Ironically, EMS took him to Audubon Hospital, where he was treated, but they were not able to save him. They discovered that he had a very enlarged heart.
Matt was a private person, and not many people realized all that he did. When his school decided to pattern their talent show on the Ed Sullivan Show, Matt played the part of Ed Sullivan. He was a Governor’s Scholar, as well as a Presidential Scholar because of his high grades. He left Highland Middle School to attend The Latin School, The Cottage School, Thomas Jefferson University & Bob Jones University online courses in high school. He also attended Portland Christian School, for his testing each year. He was an Honor Caddy for two years at the Louisville Country Club and a Volunteer at the Louisville Science Center, giving tours to school groups and organizations. He was A Teen Volunteer at Youth Services Partnership, working in soup kitchens.
Matt talked to the manager of the local Arby’s by his home and talked him into hiring him when he was fourteen to work a few hours a day. He could walk there and ended up going to Dairy Queen, being a Trainer while he was still in high school. Afterwards, his brother Andy managed Tailgaters Sports Bar and he hired Matt to help there. Matt was a hard worker. He then went to work for the local Stagehand Union for a few years, assembling and taking apart stage displays for concerts and events including acts like NSYNC, Dixie Chicks, Tim McGraw and Ozzie Osborne as well as shows like CATS, Dora the Explorer and and stage set up for President George Bush. After 9/11, Matt felt compelled to join the Army. He scored so high on the Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery (Army entrance exam) that he received a letter, along with an application, to The United States Military Academy at West Point, asking him to apply. The Army life was not for him, though, so he ended up going to school to get his Commercial Drivers License and became a truck driver. Not the life for everyone, but for those who knew how private Matt was, driving across country was a good fit for him.
Left to cherish the good times and memories with him are his Mom, Tricia Sanders Williams and Bonus Dad, David Williams, his brother Andy Chaney, and Andy’s son MA3 Gavin Kircher, USN as well as his sister Abi Weixler Basham and her husband Jeff Basham. Matt is also survived by Mike Weixler, his father and his wife, Diane Weixler as well as nephew and niece Grayson and Harper, and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins in both the Weixler and Sanders families. Per Matt’s wishes, a private family service will be held.
