Mary Geraldine (Wessel) Thompson

Mary Geraldine "Jerry" (Wessel) Thompson, 96, passed away peacefully at her home on November 23, 2017. She was a proud, devoted Catholic and was a member of St. Mary of the Knobs Catholic Church. Her strong devotion and love carried on from her faith to that of being a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. Jerry will be remembered for her love of Christmas and her ability to touch lives with her sweet smile and kind heart.

Jerry was born on December 29, 1920, in Louisville, Kentucky, to the late Edward and Clara (Henning) Wessel. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of over 63 years, Frank Thompson; granddaughter, Robin Allen; and siblings, Lloyd Wessel, Virginia Hollingsworth, and Jane Highfill.

She is survived by her four daughters, Joyce M. Muscatello (Dan), Marilyn H. Griffin (Louie), Therese M. Winstead (David), and Kathy Sperzel (Steve Razor); her four sons, Ronald N. (Drue), Garry "Bub" (Carla), Terry Joe "Scrap" (Jonelle), and Edward Patrick Thompson (Rhonda); thirteen grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and devoted care-giver, Becky Morris.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 29, 2017, and will continue from 12:00 Noon to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, November 30, 2017, at Newcomer-Southern Indiana Chapel (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany, Indiana). Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. Friday, December 1, 2017, in the chapel at St. Mary of the Knobs Catholic Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery.
