Mary Ann Sanders

Mary Ann Sanders, 83, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family.

Mary is survived by her husband of 58 years, David R. Sanders; children, Daniel Sanders (Aileen), Kim Hawkins (Scott), Jonathan Scot Sanders, Michael Sanders (Jenny); grandchildren, Madison Koch (Andrew), Kami Galindo (Gio), Grant Hawkins (Jordan), Lex Hawkins, Braden Sanders, Levi Sanders; and great grandchildren, Wrenly Koch and another blessing on the way.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry Sullivan and Grace (Fleming) Sullivan; siblings, Jeanette Bohnenkamp, Virginia Lucas and Harold Sullivan.

Mary grew up in Ryan, Iowa and was a homemaker most of her life. She was married February 2rd, 1968 to David Sanders. She attended the University of Iowa. She worked as an elementary teacher for part of her life.

She was a faithful wife, loving mother and a compassionate individual. She was defined by grace, kindness, strength and unwavering love. She was a staunch supporter of Right to Life and Downs Syndrome charities. She attended Graceland Baptist Church. She loved playing Wordle and Dominoes with her family.

Mary Ann was a fighter, through and through. She faced her illness with courage and determination, never losing her composure or her concern for those around her. Her strength was steady and unspoken, a reflection of the deep love that anchored her life. And that love was most evident in her family. She was deeply loved, and she will be profoundly missed-but never forgotten.

Visitation will be from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm on Saturday, January 3, 2025 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions, (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany, Indiana 47150). Her Funeral Service will be at 5:00 pm on Saturday, January 3, 2025 at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that contributions in Mary’s memory be made to Down Syndrome of Louisville (5001 South Hurstbourne Parkway, Louisville, KY 40291).
