Mary Lou Mcginnis

Mary Lou Sleadd McGinnis passed away peacefully October 11, 2021 at home surrounded by her loving family.

She was born October 7, 1936, in Shelby County, KY and grew up in Middletown, KY. After graduation from Eastern High School, she attended Georgetown College, and Nazareth College School of Nursing, where she became a registered nurse. She enjoyed nursing for well over 40 years, spending the majority of her time in geriatric care. She took great pride in her nursing career, and genuinely loved taking care of others - both working and at home. She was a member of the Sigma Kappa Sorority and a member of Woodland Church.

Preceding her in death were her husband, James Milton (Mac) McGinnis; an infant daughter, Cindy Lou McGinnis; her parents, Dr. Bernard Bland Sleadd and Annabelle Gladwell Sleadd; her sisters, Helen Douglas Rice and Nancye Ann Tandy; her brothers, Dr. Franklin Bland Sleadd, Bernard Allen Sleadd, William Carroll Sleadd, and James Thompson Sleadd.

She is survived by her children, Terri Lynne McGinnis, Jeffrey Barton McGinnis (Kathy), Mt Sterling, KY; Keith Douglas McGinnis; James Corey McGinnis (Libby), Mars, PA; her grandchildren, Erin Riebel (Corey); Katie, Ben (Dasha), Marc, Elleigh, and Bryce McGinnis; Tyler Bohn (Lauren), Megan Bundy (Austin) Rachel, and Abby McGinnis; Connor and Ryan McGinnis; her great grandchildren, Lucy and Maddox Riebel; Mary Ella and Lincoln Bohn; Maisie Bundy; and her sister, Phyllis Jean Roos (Robert), of Louisville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will hold a celebration of life service for Mary Lou on Monday, October 18th, at 1 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, East Louisville Chapel (235 Juneau Drive). Visitation will be from 11 a.m until the service time on Monday. Burial to follow at Middletown Historical Cemetery.
