Mary “Dorothy” Hendrix, age 103, went home to be with her Lord on January 2, 2026. Born on August 31, 1922, and raised in Dyersburg, Tennessee, Dorothy later made her home in Louisville, Kentucky, where she spent her later years surrounded by family.
A devout Christian, Dorothy’s faith guided her through every season of life and was evident in the way she cared for others. She was a gentle, compassionate woman whose quiet strength and loving spirit left a lasting impression on all who knew her.
Dorothy shared 68 years of marriage with her beloved husband, James N. Hendrix, until his passing in 1996. Together they built a strong family foundation rooted in love and faith.
She is survived by her four children: James R. Hendrix (preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Hendrix, in 2025), Linda Cox (preceded in death by her husband, Buddie Cox, in 2010), Carol Foran, and Wanda Miller (preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Miller, in 2016).
As the oldest of eight siblings, Dorothy held a special place within her family. She is survived by her brother Robert Graves and sisters Ernestine Muth and Christine Bell.
Dorothy was a proud grandmother to 10 grandchildren. 22 great-grandchildren and 23 great great grandchildren, each of whom she loved dearly (preceded in death by two granddaughters, Heather (Jason) and Kim). Her family truly meant the world to her, and she found her greatest joy in time spent surrounded by those she loved.
Visitation will be held on Friday, Jan. 16, from 4-8pm and Saturday, Jan. 17, from 10-11am at Newcomer East Louisville Chapel (235 Juneau Dr.), funeral service at 11am followed by burial at Evergreen Cemetery (4623 Preston Hwy).
Dorothy was an amazing woman whose legacy of faith, love, and devotion will live on through generations. While she will be deeply missed, her family finds comfort knowing she is now at peace in heaven with her Lord.
