Pirtle (Hunter), Mary Helen Mae, 77, of Louisville, Ky departed this life on Tuesday, March 22, 2016. She was just one day short of a year joining her beloved husband, Jim, who passed away on March 23, 2015.
Mary was born on November 10, 1938 in Alleghany County, Virginia in the small town of Covington. She was the daughter of the late Frank C. Hunter, Sr. and Mae Atkins Hunter; owners of Limeglo Farm in Sinks Grove, West Virginia. She was a member of the 1956 graduating class of Covington Senior High School. Shortly after graduating, Mary moved to Washington DC and worked as a telephone operator. Upon returning to Louisville, she was head cashier at Winn Dixie for many years, where she met the love of her life, Jim. She worked for Value City Department Store for over 15 years. And along with her husband Jim, Mary was a life long member of the Church of Christ.
Mary was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James R. Pirtle, Sr.; siblings, James Allen Hunter, Sr., Frank C. Hunter, Jr., Linda Mae Amos and Dr. Syngman Rhee.
She is survived by her loving children, Mary A. Fisher (Alfred), James R. Pirtle, Jr. (Dianne), and "her boy" Rex Pirtle Fisher; and many nieces and nephews.
A special acknowledgement to long-time neighbors and friends, Ronnie & Mary Metzger, Bill & Betty Ferguson, George & Pauline Jackson and Pat & Tammy Dawson.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at Newcomer Funeral Home (10304 Dixie Highway, Louisville). A funeral service to honor the life of Mary Helen Mae will be held on Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the funeral home. A private graveside service will be held Wednesday evening at New Lebanon Cemetery in Pickaway, West Virginia.
