Mary "Bonita" (Bronger) Carrico, 87, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, March 10, 2026. Born on October 19, 1938, in Louisville, Kentucky, she was the eighth and youngest child of Clifford and Mary Ellen (Fallon) Bronger. Bonita was not only a devoted mother and grandmother, but also a passionate poet whose love for writing enriched her life and the lives around her.
A woman of deep faith, Bonita was a devout Catholic and member of Mary Queen of Peace Catholic Church (formerly St. Helen). As a matriarch, she created countless lasting memories for her family, nurturing relationships that spanned generations.
Bonita is preceded in death by her husband, Donald Carrico, as well as her siblings: sisters Mary Rita "Reets" and Rose Carmel "Butch," and brothers Nick, Pat, Marty, and Jerry Bronger. Her memory will be lovingly carried on by her devoted sons, Todd (Donna), Tony (Carol), Terry (Kim), and Tom (Marcia) Carrico, who each hold their mother’s spirit in their hearts.
Her legacy also lives on through her treasured grandchildren: Michael (Brittany), Mary Elizabeth, Mackenzie (Andrew), Landon, Nolan, Carson, Jacob, Cheylen, Brandyn and Derek, along with her great-granddaughters Lainey, Ellie, and Kendall. Bonita's sister, Nora Ann, remains to honor her memory as well as a host of nieces, nephews, and extended family members whom Bonita loved dearly.
The family expresses gratitude to the compassionate staff at Bridepointe Gardens, The Villages at Historic Silvercrest, and the St. Croix Hospice team for their exceptional care and support during Bonita’s time with them.
Visitation for family and friends will take place from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, March 13, 2026, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany). Bonita's funeral mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at St. John Paul II Catholic Church (2605 W. St. Joe Road, Sellersburg). She will be laid to rest privately alongside her husband at Zachary Taylor National Cemetery in Louisville.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Bonita's memory may be made to St. Croix Hospice (2916 Peach Blossom Drive, Suite 106, Jeffersonville, IN 47130) or to The Villages at Historic Silvercrest (1 Silvercrest Drive, New Albany, IN 47150).
