Mary Ann Galbraith, a cherished educator, devoted wife, loving mother, and beloved sister, passed away peacefully on April 9, 2026, in Clarksville, Indiana. Born on May 6, 1940, in Deronda, Wisconsin, Mary Ann lived a life marked by loyalty, intelligence, creativity, and a steadfast commitment to those she loved.

Mary Ann's journey began in the small town of Deronda, where she nurtured a passion for learning that led her to Amery High School. Her pursuit of knowledge blossomed further when she earned her bachelor’s degree in art from the University of Wisconsin. She then went on to earn her master’s degree from the University of Indianapolis—a proud accomplishment that underscored her dedication to both personal growth and the future of her students.

Her professional life was one of heartfelt service. Mary Ann worked as an English and art teacher for the New Albany and Floyd County schools, shaping young minds through literature and creativity. Those who knew her remember not just her skill and dedication, but the warmth and care with which she approached teaching. Her classroom was a place where intellect and imagination coexisted harmoniously.

Mary Ann's devotion extended beyond the classroom into her faith and community. An active member of Grace Lutheran Church, she beautifully intertwined her artistic talents with her faith by creating special banners to commemorate the baptisms and confirmations of children in her congregation. These banners were not just decorations but expressions of her deep spiritual commitment and love for her church family.

Her interests reflected her vibrant spirit. Whether spending joyful afternoons with her close-knit circle known affectionately as the "diet club," engaging in invigorating water aerobics sessions at the YMCA, losing herself in the pages of a good book, or enjoying precious moments with her family, Mary Ann’s life was rich with meaningful connections and pursuits.

She was known for her honesty, industrious nature, free-thinking mind, and exceptional creativity. These qualities endeared her to many; she was a loyal wife to Ronald Galbraith, a loving mother to her sons Michael and Tim (Tom) Galbraith, and a devoted sister to Wendell Anderson. Mary Ann's legacy is carried forward by her living family members: her husband Ronald, sons Michael and Tim, brother Wendell, along with many loving nieces, nephews, friends, and family who cherished her presence.

Mary Ann was preceded in death by her mother, Ella Anderson; father, William Anderson; brothers Donavan, Leland, Neal Anderson; and sister Eileen Lastufka. Their memories remain intertwined with hers, forming the foundation of the family she so deeply loved.

The community will come together to honor Mary Ann’s life during a visitation on April 18, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m., followed by a funeral service at 1:00 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church, located at 1787 Klerner Lane, New Albany, Indiana. This sacred gathering will celebrate her remarkable journey and the enduring impact she made on all who knew her.

Mary Ann Galbraith’s life was one of compassion, creativity, and unwavering dedication. She leaves behind a world improved by her kindness and inspired by her example. In remembering her, we hold close the vivid colors of her art, the stories she told through her teaching, and the love that forever binds her family and friends.
