Mary Ann Avis, a beloved maternal figure and cherished member of her family and community, passed away unexpectedly on April 10, 2026, in Jeffersonville, Indiana. Born on October 30, 1956, in Louisville, Kentucky, Mary Ann lived a life marked by compassion, dedication, and an unwavering love for those around her.

From her early years, Mary Ann showed a remarkable sense of responsibility and care that would define her character. After graduating from DuPont Manual School, she pursued further studies at the University of Louisville, laying a foundation of knowledge and strength that would support her throughout her life. Mary Ann devoted many years of her career to Harland Clarke, where she worked diligently, embodying the hardworking and honest spirit that those who knew her so deeply admired.

To her family, Mary Ann was more than just a relative—she was a second mother, a counselor, and a steadfast source of comfort and guidance. She took on the role of caregiver with grace, watching over her nieces, nephews, and siblings with a sweet temper yet straightforward approach that earned her respect and love. Her compassion extended beyond duty; it was her nature to put others before herself, making every moment with family special and ensuring they always felt cherished and deeply loved.

She was preceded in death by her father, Louis M. Avis, her mother, Catherine R. Avis, her twin brother, Edward L. Avis, and her significant other, Marji Rotenberger. Those who carry forward her memory include her niece, Christine A. (Matthew) Pell; her brothers, Louis L. Avis and Daniel J. (Donna) Avis; her sister-in-law, Patti Avis; along with many loving nieces, nephews, friends, and family who were touched by her kindness and selflessness.

Memorial gatherings to honor Mary Ann's life will be held at Newcomer Funeral Home, Southern Indiana, located at 3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany, Indiana. On April 15, 2026, a Memorial Gathering will take place from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM, followed immediately by a Celebration of Life from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Family, friends, and all whose lives she enriched are invited to come together to remember and celebrate the enduring spirit of this extraordinary woman.
