Martin "Joe" Rommel, known to many simply as Joe, passed away on September 14, 2026. He was born on June 7, 1964, in Jeffersonville.
Joe lived a life marked by service, creativity, and the simple joys that brought him happiness. He served in the United States Navy for 15 years, a meaningful chapter of his life that reflected dedication and commitment. He also found enjoyment in many personal interests. Joe loved collecting clocks, gardening, animals, rottweilers, and photography. His creative spirit was also evident in his writing, and among his proudest accomplishments was the publication of three poetry books.
Above all, Joe will be remembered by those who knew and loved him best. He is survived by his wife, Renee Rommel; his son, Jesse Humbles; and his grandchildren, Jayden and Cambrie. He is also survived by his brothers, Marvin Rommel and Mark Rommel, and by his sisters, Rose Delehanty and Marilyn McGarvey. May their memories of Joe bring comfort in the days ahead and keep close the love they shared with him.
He was preceded in death by his father, Ray Rommel; his mother, Kathryn Rommel; his brothers, Michael Rommel and Mitchell Rommel; and his sisters, Kathy Clark, Mickey Cox, and Carolyn Pruitt.
Visitation will be held on September 22, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Newcomer Funeral Home, East Louisville, 235 Juneau Dr, Louisville, KY 40243. The funeral service will follow there at 12:30 p.m., with a graveside service at 2:00 p.m.
Joe’s memory will live on in the hearts of his family and all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
