Martha Mayham, 95, fell asleep in death on Friday May 25, 2018. Born in 1922 to Stella and Sydney King, Martha drew close to her sister, Mary, as they played in the cool cellar of their Texas home. In 1944, Martha married John Mayham and moved to Brooklyn, New York. She bore three children, Syd, Martha, and Pat. In 1969, she lost both her husband and son to unexpected deaths. Martha quickly adapted to her new circumstances by working as a nanny and inviting her mother and sister to live with her. Her mother introduced her to Jehovah's Witnesses so she could study the Bible. The things Martha learned changed the rest of her life. On April 11,1970, she was baptized as one of Jehovah's Witnesses. Every month, she eagerly volunteered to talk with others about the Bible. Her hospitable spirit moved her to host many in her home for meals and lodging. Even as her health failed in old age, Martha was known to never be missing from the meetings for worship. Serving her God brought her joy and hope.

When Martha retired, she moved to Louisville with her sister and mother. Her children were so happy to have her close. Although she never learned to drive, she kept on the move, always walking and traveling with friends. In 1994, Martha began a second career as pioneer, a full time minister, which she was able to enjoy for 8 years. Then she began caring for her sister who was struggling with Alzheimer's disease. When Martha needed more assistance, she moved in with her daughter, Pat. Martha was so generous that even from her wheelchair she would try to help someone else. She never liked being cared for; she wanted to do for others.

She is survived by her two daughters, Martha (Earl) Miller and Pat Eaton, 4 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Sunday June 3 at 4 o'clock in the afternoon at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 12126 Lower River Road, Louisville, Kentucky 40272. In honor of Martha's lifelong hospitality, a reception will follow at Park Terrace nursing home cafeteria.

The family would like to thank the amazing staff at Park Terrace for the loving care they have provided.
Memorial gifts may be made to Jehovah's Witnesses, jw.org.
