Martha Alice Kaufman was born May 15th, 1923 and passed away on Thursday, September 27th, 2018 at the age of 95.
Martha was the daughter of Nellie and John Christian Wagner. Martha was born in Valley Station, KY where she attended Valley High School. She excelled at both academics and athletics earning the position of captain on Valley's first ever field hockey team. Upon graduation, Martha left Louisville to attend Hood College in Fredrick, MD.
In 1942 Martha returned to Louisville to marry Martin "Speedy" Moremen. Sadly, Speedy was killed at the Battle of the Bulge. After his death, Martha served her country as a Red Cross Nurse's Aide. She went on to marry her childhood friend Clifford G. Kaufman who also served in World War II. They were happily married for 63 years and together they raised three children. Nothing made her happier than spending time with and spoiling her eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Pets also held a special place in Martha's heart. Her passion for horses led to her work at Hermitage Farm.
Grandma's final days were spent in the loving care of her family.
She is proceeded in death by her husband Clifford Kaufman, her son-in-law David Talbott Sr, grandson David Talbott, and great-grandson Jackson Talbott.
Martha is survived by her children, Josey Talbott, Cliff "Chip" Kaufman (Jackie), Amy Kaufman; grandchildren, Ashley Talbott (Jon), Michael Talbott (Kelly), Jason Talbott (Meghan), Jordan Abell (Samantha), John Abell, JoHanna Abell, Alex Kaufman, Shayna Kaufman; great-grandchildren, Zachary (Angela), Avery, Alyssa, Lucas, Landon, Emma, Kate, Carson, and Kyleigh.
The memorial will be held at Christ Chapel at Churchill Downs Sunday, October 7th at 2PM.
