Martha Edling, 76, of Louisville, KY, born September 19, 1944, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 4, 2021 at Baptist Health Louisville with her sons and husband by her side. She is preceded in death by her brother, Kenneth Rolli Fischer, and her parents, William O. Fischer and Jane Fischer. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Don Edling, her brother, William O. Fischer, Jr. (Rebecca), and her three sons, Chris (Julie), Robert (Corrie), and Stephen (Roxanne).
Martha Ann graduated from Atherton High School and attended the University of Kentucky and Miami University in Oxford, Ohio, where she obtained a teaching certificate. She taught a sixth grade classroom for several years in an underserved area of Dayton, OH, where she had the opportunity to meet Martin Luther King, Jr. Later in her life, she pursued her passion for cooking and entertaining by opening Raleigh's Tavern in Lebanon, Ohio and becoming a part-owner and manager of six Subway restaurant locations. Martha then obtained her real estate license and became one of the top sales agents with Sibcy Cline Realty in Cincinnati.
Martha and Don returned to Louisville, Kentucky in 1996, where she volunteered as an art teacher at St. Joseph Children's Home. Martha was an environmental advocate and worked with the Sierra Club as well as the Louisville park system on the cleanup of Beargrass Creek. She was honored as a Kentucky Colonel for her volunteer services.
Martha was a faithful member of the Episcopal Church of the Ascension in Middletown, Ohio, where she was director of the women's group. She was also a member of Calvary Episcopal Church in Louisville, Kentucky.
Martha's favorite role was as a grandmother to her seven wonderful grandchildren. She loved gatherings with family and friends, and cooking an assortment of delicious treats treats and meals for those who called her "Mimi."
There will be a private visitation at Newcomer Funeral Home (235 Juneau Dr.), in Middletown from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm on Monday, May 10, 2021, with a graveside service at Cave Hill Cemetery immediately following.
In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made in her memory to St. Joseph Children's Home in Louisville.
