Martha Jane (Austin) Chastain, 86, of New Albany, Indiana, passed away at her home on Saturday afternoon, January 27, 2018, surrounded by family. She had been an employee at Seinsheimer Clothing Factory, M. Fine & Sons, and John. B. Mitchell in New Albany, Indiana, and Olympic Stain (PPG) in Louisville, Kentucky. Martha loved her family first and foremost, as she was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Her second love was her Pomeranians. Martha was involved in obedience training and dog shows. She belonged to the GLTC and Southern Indiana dog clubs. Martha was also a lifetime member of the Ladies Auxiliary at VFW Post 1693.
She was born on February 9, 1931, in New Albany to the late Arnold and Clara (Weaver) Austin. Martha was also preceded in death by her husband, William A. "Billy" Chastain; and siblings, Dorothy Bowen and Edward Austin.
Martha is survived by her daughter, Teresa "Susie" Linette (Mel); son, Terry W. Chastain (Ava); and stepdaughter, Karen Collins (Rick). She was the beloved Na-Na to four grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, February 2, 2018, at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - Southern Indiana Chapel (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany) and on Saturday after 11:00 p.m. Her Funeral Service will take place at 1:00 p.m. Saturday in the chapel at the funeral home with burial to follow at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park in New Albany.
Martha's family would like to extend their heartfelt appreciation to "Joan the nurse" and all of their "angels in the night" support and on-call nurses. They will forever be in the family's heart.
