Mark Labhart

Mark Labhart, born on August 6, 1964, in Harvey, Illinois, passed away on April 5, 2026. He was a man whose life was marked by integrity, meticulous care, and a deep commitment to those around him. Throughout his distinguished career, Mark had the unique opportunity to work across the globe, with significant time spent in India and Paris, experiences that enriched his professional expertise and broadened his world view.

A dedicated scholar, Mark earned his degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Louisville Speed School. This academic foundation served as the cornerstone for a career defined by excellence and a steadfast adherence to values that guided both his professional endeavors and personal life.

Mark’s character reflected an old soul, one who valued tradition and responsibility. He was known for his meticulous attention to detail and the thoughtful care he provided to his parents, embodying a profound sense of duty and love. Beyond his professional and familial commitments, Mark had a passion for hobbies that connected him to simple pleasures and the natural world. He delighted in collecting model trains, a hobby that spoke to his appreciation for craftsmanship and history. Building and riding bicycles brought him joy and a means to stay connected with the environment, a cause close to his heart. Gardening was another of his cherished activities, reflecting his nurturing spirit and love for the outdoors.

Mark is survived by his devoted sister, Patricia A. (Gary) Smith, who alongside her husband shared in the bonds of family and love. He also leaves behind two nieces, Kate Labhart and Emma Smith, as well as two nephews, Karl Labhart and Jack Smith, who will carry forward his legacy of integrity and care. Mark’s sister-in-law, Dana Labhart, also survives him, maintaining enduring family ties.

He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Norman James and Lela (Minor) Labhart, and his cherished brother, Norman J. Labhart, Jr. Their memories continue to be a source of strength and inspiration.

Mark Labhart’s life was one of purpose, marked by generosity, care, and devotion. His legacy endures in the hearts of his family and all who were privileged to know him. He will be remembered with great respect and fondness for the man he was and the life he lived.

Private graveside services will be held at St. Peters United Church of Christ Cemetery (12338 North St. Peters Church Road, Lamar, IN 47550).
