October 29, 1947 — April 8, 2022

Marjorie First, 74, of New Albany, Indiana, passed away on Friday, April 8, 2022. She was a long-time member of Galatian Missionary Baptist Church, where she was Missionary President, President of the Choir, and the Sunday School teacher. Marjorie loved working with the youth. She retired from New Albany High School, where she worked as the physical education teacher for many years. Marjorie loved being around people and was always the center of attention.

She was born on October 29, 1947, in Russellville, Kentucky. She is preceded in death by her parents, Rosa Pearl and Maynard Groves; and sister, Rochelle Grant.

Marjorie is survived by her loving husband of 21 years, Cecil First, Jr.; daughter, Judy Malone; daughter, Damita (Timothy) Lewis; son, D'Marcus Mason; daughter, Roseattae (Michael) Jones; son, Leon "Shawn" Mason; brother, Larry (Jonii Olivia) Taylor; 18 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 16, 2022, at Galatian Missionary Baptist Church (2020 Maryland Avenue, New Albany). Her Funeral Service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday at the church with burial to follow at West Haven Cemetery in New Albany.
