Marion Jean Burgess, age 73, of Louisville, passed away Saturday, May 28, 2016. Jean was born on June 9, 1942 and raised on Hopewell Road in Louisville, Kentucky. She was a "stay at home" mom by trade (and a darned good one at that!). She raised seven children of her own and helped with countless others. She was an inspiration to anyone who knew her and was always ready to help anyone in need. Jean loved life and loved to laugh! As she would say, "You might as well laugh or you'd cry!" The pleasures of life she loved included attending Emmanuel Freewill Baptist Church, trips to the Smokey Mountains with her wonderful husband, BINGO, causing obesity in squirrels, rolled oysters, handsome men, and most of all, her family! She was preceded in death by her husband, Basil Burgess; her father, George Brinley; her mother, Effie M. Smith Brinley; brother, Charles Brinley; and grandson, Anthony Carpenter; all of whom will be celebrating the heavenly arrival of one heck of a woman!
Jean left behind many who are going to miss her dearly, including her children, Cathy Batts (Chris), Mark Ernspiker (Kelly), Tom Ernspiker, Dana Kinser (Paul), Lisa Ernspiker (Mark), Tammy Ernspiker and Lori Lopez (Mario); step-children, Terry Carpenter, Dan Burgess (Debbie) and Randy Carpenter; 29 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; 1 brother, George Brinley, Jr. (Darlene); 3 sisters, Linda Hood, Donna Smith (Danny) and Judy Pierce; too many nieces and nephews to count; and a host of family and friends.
Visitation will be 2-8pm Thursday, June 2, 2016 at Newcomer Funeral Home, East Louisville Chapel, 235 Juneau Drive in Middletown. Funeral ceremony will be 1pm on Friday, June 3rd at the funeral home, with burial to follow in Hopewell Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Emmanuel Freewill Baptist Church.
