Marilyn Jean Sherrod, beloved mother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on August 18, 2026, in New Albany, Indiana, surrounded by her children. Born on September 8, 1943, in Greenville, Indiana, Marilyn’s life was defined by her unwavering dedication to her family, her steadfast kindness, and the warmth she shared with those who had the privilege of knowing her.
Marilyn’s journey began in the rolling countryside of Greenville, where she was born to Marion Mosier and Elsie Mosier Nance. Growing up in a loving family, Marilyn developed deep bonds with her siblings-Wanda Toops, James Nance, Paul Mosier, as well as her late brothers Robert Mosier, Harold Mosier, Chester Mosier, and her late sister Dorothy Denton. These family ties remained sacred throughout her life and shaped the nurturing person Marilyn became.
On September 18, 1960, Marilyn married Larry Sherrod, the love of her life. Their enduring partnership stood as a testament to true and unwavering love, inspiring all who witnessed their devotion. Together, Marilyn and Larry built a home filled with joy, laughter, and unconditional support, and they were blessed with two devoted children, Kimberly Sherrod and Gary Sherrod, whom Marilyn cherished above all else. Her role as a stay-at-home wife and mother was her greatest pride and life’s purpose; she poured her entire soul into raising her family and supporting her husband, embodying the heart and spirit of her household.
Family traditions and treasured moments with loved ones were at the center of Marilyn’s life. She took great delight in spending time with her sisters at cabins in Lincoln State Park, and she found joy in traveling to the beach, where she could bask in the serenity of the shoreline. Marilyn’s love of reading fed her boundless curiosity, providing her comfort and adventure throughout her days.
Marilyn is survived by her loving daughter, Kimberly Sherrod; her devoted son, Gary (Rosemary) Sherrod; her sister, Wanda Toops; and her brothers, James Nance and Paul Mosier. Her legacy also extends to her many cherished nieces, nephews, and cousins, each of whom held a special place in her heart.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Larry Sherrod; her parents, Marion Mosier and Elsie Nance; her brothers, Robert, Harold, and Chester Mosier; and her sister, Dorothy Denton. Marilyn’s memory will forever be treasured by all who knew her, and her compassionate spirit will continue to inspire future generations.
Family and friends are invited to honor Marilyn’s life at the visitation, which will be held on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., at Newcomer Funeral Home, Southern Indiana, located at 3309 Ballard Ln, New Albany, IN 47150. The funeral service will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the same location. A private burial will be at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park in New Albany, Indiana.
Marilyn Jean Sherrod’s gracious presence, steadfast love, and enduring devotion to her family and friends will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who were fortunate enough to be touched by her life.
The family requests that contributions in Marilyn’s memory be made to New Albany Animal Shelter or Hosparus Health Southern Indiana.
