Marilyn Lee Serotte, 86, born March 18, 1933, in Erie, Pennsylvania, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 23, 2019, in Louisville, Kentucky, with family by her side.
She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 62 years, Irwin Serotte; her son Steven (Pamela); three grandsons, Michael and Jeffrey Moliver and Brian DeSpain; three great-grandchildren, Brock, Olivia, and Ella DeSpain; sisters, Karen Marcus (Robert), Fran Von Minden, Barbara Wendler; and many special nieces, nephews, cousins, and life-long friends. She is preceded in death by her daughter, Michelle Serotte; her parents, Donald and Revella Rosenthal; and brothers-in-law, Al Von Minden and Harry Wendler.
Marilyn moved to Miami, Florida, from Erie, Pennsylvania, in 1947, and was a 1950 graduate of Miami Beach Senior High School. After marrying Irwin Serotte in Buffalo, New York, in 1957, they enjoyed many years there before re-locating to Miami in 1970, and while managing the household and raising two children, Marilyn enjoyed a successful career as office manager of Burdines department store. After retirement, she and Irwin moved to Tamarac, Florida, where Marilyn served for many years as president of the Concord Village Condominium Association for the building complex in which they lived.
Marilyn's greatest joy was her adored children, Steven and Michelle, but she also had many talents and hobbies. Marilyn loved to write letters and poems. She was articulate, and never failed to acknowledge kindness with a beautifully written thank you note. She was a meticulous homemaker; an avid reader; a Scrabble player who couldn't be beat; and later in life she was a champion at the game of Bingo. Marilyn was deeply committed to her many loyal friends and family members, especially her beloved sisters, and she always managed to stay in touch - even after illness brought her to Louisville, Kentucky, where her final years were spent.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude for the compassionate caregivers and staff at Louisville Jefferson Manor, and everyone who has provided their heartfelt support during this difficult time.
A celebration of Marilyn's life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital; 262 Danny Thomas Place; Memphis, Tennessee 38105; www.stjude.org; or a charity of your choice.
