Marilyn Hope (Thompson) Griffin, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 6, 2025, in Leavenworth, Indiana, surrounded by her cherished family. She was born on May 16, 1950, in Louisville, Kentucky, a radiant light from the very beginning who would go on to touch the hearts of all who knew her.
Marilyn was a devoted member of her community, known for her warm spirit and generosity. She began her career as a sales representative for Mary Kay, where her hard work and dedication earned her a successful rise to director. Yet, her true passion extended beyond her professional achievements; it lay in her love for music and family. A proud member of St. Mary of the Knobs Catholic Church, she graced the choir with her beautiful singing voice for nearly 40 years. Whether at weddings, funerals, or community events, Marilyn shared the gift of song, leaving a lasting impact on all who heard her unforgettable melodies.
Her early education took root at St. Mary of the Knobs Elementary School, culminating in her graduation as a member of the first class from Floyd Central High School in 1968. It was there that she laid the foundation for a life devoted to family and faith.
On October 11, 1969, Marilyn married the love of her life, Everett “Louie” Griffin. Their union lasted over 56 beautiful years, filled with laughter, joy, and an unwavering bond that inspired those around them. Together, they created a nurturing home that fostered love and connection, raising two wonderful sons, Tony and Cory. Marilyn's role as a mother extended to her treasured grandchildren: Julia Rose Griffin, Elyse Renee Griffin, Jimmy (Megan) Smith, and Corey Smith, along with the joy of being a great grandmother to Carter and Masie.
Marilyn was more than just a devoted family woman; she embraced nature with an adventurous spirit. She loved camping and fishing, shared countless hours cutting wood with Louie, found joy in tending to her flowers, and created memories supporting her boys in their sports and music. Above all, she cherished the time spent with her family, weaving together moments that would be remembered for a lifetime.
She is survived by her loving husband, Louie, her sons Tony (Janice) Griffin and Cory (Eva) Griffin, and her grandchildren, Julia Rose Griffin, Elyse Renee Griffin, Jimmy (Megan) Smith, and Corey Smith whose lives she filled with love and laughter. Her siblings-Joyce Maureen Muscatello, Therese (David) Winstead, Kathy (Steve Razor) Sperzel, and Pat (Rhonda) Thompson, and sister in laws, Drue, Carla, and Jonelle Thompson-will forever feel her absence. Additionally, Marilyn leaves behind several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends, all of whom were touched by her kindness and zest for life.
Marilyn is preceded in death by her parents, Frank R. and Geraldine (Wessel) Thompson, her brothers, Ron, Terry, and Gary "Bub" Thompson, as well as brother in law, Dan Muscatello and nephew, Todd Thompson.
