Marie Christine Gaar

November 28, 1925 — January 22, 2017

Marie Christine Gaar was born in Brumath, France in 1925. She first started working as a secretary at the University of Strasbourg through the Nazi occupation. Marie then immigrated to the United States after the war, to live with her aunt Christine Hahn of Louisville. She worked for Monumental Insurance and was a long-time volunteer for the Kentucky Center for the Arts. She was a talented artist producing scores of paintings. She was preceded in death by her husband Edwin Earl Gaar, Jr.

Marie is survived by her son Dr. Edwin Earl Gaar and his wife Victoria Gaar (Reiche), as well as by a nephew Dr. Pierre Kiehl of Lampertheim France; and a host of family and friends.

Visitation will be 3-8pm Thursday, January 26, 2017 at Newcomer Funeral Home, 235 Juneau Drive in Middletown. A celebration of Marie's life will be 11am Friday, January 27th at the funeral home, followed by burial at Cave Hill Cemetery.
