Maria Mattei left us on February 7, 2022 to be with her beloved husband, Lou Mattei; parents, Patrick and Ellen Sampson; sisters, Theresa Fowler, Monica Byrde and Patricia Dohey; nephew, Michael Fowler.
Maria was born in Argentia, Newfoundland, Canada and lived most of her 82 years in the Louisville, Kentucky area. Maria initially worked as a telephone operator for the US military base in Argentia before moving to the Louisville, Kentucky region where she employed her skills as a seamstress at clothing and bedding manufacturing companies. Years before retiring she had transitioned to a management position. Maria was not only an ardent worker, but a fun-loving person who relied on her Catholic faith and love of God as the mainstay of her life. When Maria's soulmate Lou Mattei passed, she enjoyed the fellowship of friends such as Mary Bee, Mildred, Marcella and many others who have preceded her.
Remaining family members who will miss her are daughters Glenda Finney (Michael) and Nancy Sullivan; grandchildren, Kelly Essler (Jim), Christopher Lauyans (Amber), Brendan Sullivan, Jason Finney (Marcie), Jeremy Finney (Amanda), Shannon Smith (Rich), nephews and nieces, Patricia Brooks, Harold Fowler, Tim Fowler, Ellen Manuel, Bernard Fowler, Andy Fowler, Jim Fowler, Tony Byrde, Rose Marie Meade, Harold Byrde, Michael Byrde, Geraldine Byrde, Gerard Byrde, Cathy Harris, Joseph Byrde, Monica Doyle, Bill Dohey, Philip Dohey, Patrick Dohey, Mary Lou Collins, David Dohey, Paul Dohey , Ann Marie Provencher and Brenda Tobin.
Maria was a lover of life and a teller of jokes who will be missed by all who knew and loved her. We love you and wish you the best on your journey to God and your loved ones.
