Margaret Garner

July 18, 1921 — March 1, 2016

Margaret "Mickey" Virginia McGee Garner, born July 18, 1921, passed peacefully on March 1, 2016 in the company of her children. "Mickey" was a beloved mother, sister, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to many.

Margaret graduated from Holmes High School in Covington, KY in 1940, as did her future husband Gordon Earl Garner. During World War II, she worked as a switchboard operator while he enlisted in the U.S. Army after the attack on Pearl Harbor. They corresponded extensively throughout the war and married upon his return in 1945.

Margaret had three children, six grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. Gordon Earl Garner went to work for International Harvester, and over the course of his career the family lived in Covington, Lexington, Ashland, Louisville, and Bowling Green KY. Margaret attended Disciples of Christ and United Methodist churches. After the death of her husband in 2001, Margaret resided in Morningside Assisted Living in Bowling Green, KY.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, Florence Hood and William Reed McGee, her husband Gordon Earl Garner, her older brother Bill McGee, and her younger brother J.D. McGee.

She is survived by her youngest brother Don McGee, her son and daughter-in-law Gordon and Joyce Garner, her son and daughter-in-law Andy and Denise Garner, her daughter and son-in-law Diana and Bradley Frames, and by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A private burial service will take place on Thursday at Highland Cemetery in Ft Mitchell, KY.
