In Loving Memory of Manuel “Manny” Alvarenga
January 14, 1943 - May 24, 2026
For Manny, timing was everything. It was the guiding principle of his career as a master clockmaker, and the beautiful truth of how he lived his life-always showing up at the exact moment he was needed most. This was especially true when it came to his missionary work for Christ. As a dedicated missionary, Manny traveled across the United States, Australia, and Mexico, letting faith guide his steps to wherever a community or an individual needed uplifting. He understood that in God’s kingdom, timing is precise, and he gave his life to being the hands and feet of Jesus at just the right moment.
Born on January 14, 1943, in El Salvador, Central America, Manny grew up with a deep sense of justice and purpose. In his early years there, he was a courageous leader in the labor union, fighting passionately for employees' rights and fair treatment. He eventually came to the United States at a young age with a bright mind and a resilient spirit. He pursued his education at the college level, ultimately channeling his brilliance into a unique calling. He dedicated most of his younger years to the meticulous, rare craft of building public timepieces, supporting the design team and maintaining the majestic civic clocks that keep communities moving in harmony. Through his vital skills and dedication, he established himself as a true professional master clockmaker.
Beyond his incredible professional talents, Manny was a man of profound knowledge and quiet devotion. He was a simple guy at heart who found his greatest joy in the pages of a book. He could spend hours and hours reading, especially into the late-night hours and across quiet weekends. Above all other texts, he cherished the Bible. Manny lived and breathed the Scripture, sharing the word of God with every single person he met. He was never ashamed of his faith; it was his compass, his joy, and a gift he extended freely to the world.
Manny's greatest legacy lives on in the family he loved so deeply. He is survived by his beloved wife, Teresa Alvarenga; his sons, Juan C. Alvarenga and Antonio “Tony” Alvarenga; and his daughter, Jackeline L. Ellis. He was also the proud and loving grandfather to his seven grandchildren: Juan C. Alvarenga, Jr., Gerson Nathanael Alvarenga, Suheidy Rubie Alvarenga, Isai Alvarenga, Joseph David Alvarenga, Michael Wayne Ellis, and Jasmine Lizzette Ellis.
To honor his wishes as a beautifully simple man, the family will hold a peaceful, straightforward service to celebrate his life.
Visitation will be from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm on Tuesday, June 2, 2026 at Newcomer Cremations, Funerals & Receptions - Southwest Louisville Chapel, (10304 Dixie Hwy). His Funeral Service will be at 12:30 pm on Tuesday, at Bethany Memorial Cemetery with burial to follow at Bethany Memorial Cemetery in Louisville, Kentucky.
Manny spent a lifetime ensuring the world kept perfect time and that souls felt the warmth of God's love. He always reminded us that “timing is everything.”While his own clock on earth has quieted, the legacy of the moments, love, and faith he shared with us will remain timeless.
As a devout Christian, Manny lived with his eyes fixed on eternity, fully trusting in the beautiful promises of his Savior. We find our ultimate comfort knowing that he has stepped out of earthly time and into the glorious, everlasting presence of the Lord.
"Jesus said to her, 'I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die.'" — John 11:25-26
May he rest in perfect, eternal peace.
