Mannon A. Nix, Jr. "Tex", 90, of New Albany, Indiana formerly of Carlsbad, California passed away on January 12, 2016 at his home with his family by his side. He was born on May 1, 1925 in Shamrock, Texas to the late Bessie (Davis) and Mannon A. Nix, Sr. Tex was a proud veteran that served as a Marine in both WWII and the Korean War. He was a Deputy Sheriff in Shamrock, Texas and was a member of the Elks Lodge, VFW and American Legion of both New Albany and in Oceanside, California. Tex retired as an Operating Engineer and was a member of the Local 12 Operating Engineer Union. He lived a long, fulfilling life enjoying his family, traveling in his motor home and playing pool and horseshoes. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.


He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Cleo Belle, children, Don, Becky, Lee, Charles, Patty and Lynn, siblings, Ethel, Jim, Katherine and Gene, and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Tex was preceded in death by his daughter, Dorothy Ann.


Private Family Visitation will be on Saturday, January 16, 2016 from 9 to 11 AM at Newcomer Funeral Home (3309 Ballard Lane, New Albany, Indiana 47150). Private Graveside Services with military honors will be held at Friendship Cemetery in New Albany, Indiana following the family gathering.


In lieu of flowers Memorial Donations may be made to Hosparus-the Community Hospice of Southern Indiana.
