Maburn Leon Collard, Sr., age 88, of Floyds Knobs, Indiana, passed away on Sunday, February 6, 2022 surrounded by family at Baptist Floyd Hospital in New Albany, Indiana, due to pulmonary fibrosis and Covid pneumonia. Maburn was born on October 18, 1933, in Kyrock, Kentucky, the son of the late Luther and Levada (Beck) Collard, Sr. Having a strong love for his country, he volunteered to enlist into the United States Army, and after being denied acceptance since he was born with only one kidney, he left Edmonson County, Kentucky and moved to Louisville. He was united in marriage to Janet A. Clifford on February 6, 1954. Maburn retired from Devoe Paint Company. He was a "Kentucky Colonel" and an avid University of Kentucky fan, enjoyed fishing, playing pool, bowling, golfing, gardening and canning, but his absolute favorite and in his element was playing his guitar and singing country music to live crowds. Many said he sounded like Hank Williams, Sr. He did try his hand in the music industry in the 1950s, and had a few songs recorded. Some of these songs can be found by searching "Leon Collard" on You-tube. Up until the pandemic hit in 2020, he performed several times at the Corydon Jamboree/Corydon Live and other locations in the Kentuckiana area. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, four brothers: James Collard, Arthur Collard, Luther Collard, Jr. and Murriel Collard, one sister: Jewell Collard and one grandson, Daniel Sumner, Jr.
Maburn is survived by his six children, Gerald (Katherine) Collard, Maburn Leon Collard, Jr., Alan (Katrina) Collard, Darrell (Brenda) Collard, Deanna (Will) Felts and Lisa Collard (Gary Walker); two sisters, Dottie Elmore and Brenda Kabler; 16 grandchildren, Jennifer McDade, Connie Gilbow, Desirea Collard, Benjamin Collard, Robert Collard, Curtis Collard, Jimmy Emerson, Hannah Snow, Makatelyn Fitch, Makayla Fitch, Kylee Sumner, Adaleah Collard, Cristina Felts, Tyler Felts, Kayla Magness and Taylor Walker; 13+ great-grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild; and a host of family and friends.
